Happy 1st Birthday Angel

God blessed us with a special gift the day that you were born.
One year ago today, we held you in our arms.
There was no shiny paper, ribbons or bows.
Just the sound of a baby that we’ve been waiting to hold
What a beautiful gift the Lord gave us today.
You came into our lives in such a special way.
We had been waiting to hold you, love you and to share
all the special moments life has to bare.
You are a special angel sent straight from heaven above.
What a perfect little angel full of wonderful love.
You are our special gift sent by God alone.
We thank him for the day you came into our little home.
You filled our life with happiness, wonder and cheer
May God keep you and bless you and always hold you near.

Happy 1st Birthday Angel
Loving You Always and Forever

Thank you  / Grandma (Grandma)

Seth,

Thank you for coming in to my life and the time and joy you gave me.  I believe you have made me a better person.  I love you so much and long to hold you.  I thank you for every smile you shared, everytime I got to hold you.  I thank you for the happiness I felt everytime I saw you.  Whenever I was coming to see you I could not get there fast enough.  You brought me and your mother closer and I thank you for that.  You are truly a blessing in my life, everyday you are there in my mind and heart.  I wanted to hold you all the time. There are so many people who wanted your time it was almost hard for your mom and dad to get everyone in.  I knew you were special before you were born.  I had no idea how special you were and how it has made your mom and dad reach out to make things better for other people. God has truly blessed all of us when you arrived.  I will close with a prayer for God to hold you tight and give you bunch of kisses for us. I love you. I miss you.

Sandra and Larry Pitts expressed gratitude to everyone who attended a fundraiser at the Crosby American Legion Hall Post 658 in Crosby, held in honor of their son, Seth, who died of Congenital Heart Disease in August.

“Our little boy has touched so many hearts in ways that my husband and I could never have imagined,” Sandra said. “We had hoped people would come to help honor his legacy but you just never know how many people will come. We were so touched to see so many people there. It is a blessing to see something so tragic turn into something so positive.”

They took their son to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston and discovered that while he was in the hospital room, his younger relatives did not have much to keep them occupied outside of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit waiting room. This inspired them to come back to the hospital and see about placing a mural outside of the waiting room along with wall mounting toys.

To help fund the toys, the Pitts decided to hold a fundraiser at the American Legion Hall. They had their own cooking team – the Jacked Up Cookers – who provided briskets, sausage, chicken, and hamburgers to the fundraiser participants. Many area businesses donated prizes to a raffle held at the fundraiser. These included discounted tickets to restaurants, cooking baskets, leather jackets, and many other items. People could purchase a raffle ticket and place it in a bag next to the item. Students from Sam Houston University helped put some of the gift baskets together. A moonwalk and face painting were available for younger participants.

Over $4,000 was raised at the weekend’s event.

The mural is being done by Carla Stedillie of Murals by Carla. She is doing the mural free of charge. Due to the overwhelming amount of support other parts of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit are being considered for upgrades now as well as the addition of the wall mounting toys.

Sandra also said they plan to install reflection mirrors outside of thehospital’s waiting room sort of like the kind you find in a carnival funhouse.

“Children’s attention span is not as long as adults,” Sandra said. “Handling the stress of a child when you have a child in the hospital is tough. Right now, the room is just a typical waiting room. This will make it a friendlier environment for everyone. Also, they have equipment that needs to be replaced. It is unlimited what we can do.”

Becky Sciacca, Seth’s grandmother, said they felt truly blessed by the turnout.

“We have been given everything we could ask for,” Sciacca said. “We always thought (Seth) was special. Most people did not know him. They just see the pictures. He has touched a lot of people. We were truly blessed to know him.”

Helen Cook, Sandra’s sister, said she is amazed by the outpouring of concern about Seth.

“People came together for a great event,” Cook said. “The support is overwhelming. A part of Seth will affect every child who goes into (Texas Children’s Hospital). I am amazed how giving Sandra is. She is mourning over her own child and is concerned about what other children will do in the waiting room.”

Robert Van Natta, owner of Van Natta’s Silky Screening in Baytown, donated T-shirts to the raffle at the event. He expressed gratitude at the strength and resolve of both Larry and Sandra Pitts.

“They were dealt a tough hand,” he said. “They had to do what they could. It tells you the character of these folks have especially in a time of crisis. It is a great event and I wanted to be a part of it.”

In a letter of support from Jennifer Smart, Texas Children Hospital’s Manager of the office of development, she said the Pitts family has joined in the hospital’s mission to improve the health and quality of life for children in our community and far beyond.

“Every child whose life is saved or whose illness is treated is a miracle, and your involvement and generosity is what makes such miracles possible,” Smart wrote.

The Children’s Miracle Network has also been supportive of their efforts, Sandra said. She is also looking into ways to provide front door key access versus walking around the hospital for those who stay at the Ronald McDonald House. Apparently, if someone leaves after hours, they cannot get back into the house without having to walk on the other side of the hospital, which can be very stressful to those who have loved ones staying there.

Anyone who wishes to help donate to the mounting wall toys or for any other items for the Texas Children’s Hospital ICU waiting room can call 281-636-0618.

Melissa Murray looks over items donated for a raffle at the Seth Anthony Pitts Fundraiser in Crosby Oct. 25.

There is a dad I know who is the greatest of them all.

The kids are always first and he plays with them all.

He never has an empty pocket for a coin or a dollar.

He never is to busy to listen to what they have to say.

They love him and crawl on him and fight for a place to stay.

Seth is always in his heart where he will stay.

Local husband and wife holds fundraiser for hospital mural in honor of late son

By MATT HOLLIS
Updated: 10.20.08
Sandra & Larry Pitts went through a parent’s worst nightmare earlier this year when she & her husband's three-month-old son, Seth, died from Congenital Heart Disease in August.

Pitts, a North Channel resident, had taken Seth to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston and discovered that while he was in the hospital room, his younger relatives did not have much to keep them occupied.

"While we were grieving, they had nothing to keep them busy except for hand sanitizers," Pitts said. "The parents had to be occupied with trying to keep them quiet."

Pitts decided afterward that something should be done to keep children occupied in that kind of situation, so she and her husband are going to hold a fundraiser for wall mounting toys and a mural at Texas Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The Barbecue and Raffle is scheduled at noon on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Crosby American Legion Hall Post 658, 14890 FM 2100, Crosby.

"We have been going to businesses and have tons of gifts donated to us," Pitts said. "We’ve also collected food from local grocery stores. We will be raffling off a lot of items. It’s not just about the adults, it is also about the little kids."

Texas Children’s Hospital is supporting the effort full force.

"We are fortunate to have you join Texas Children’s and the Pitts family in our mission to improve the health and quality of life for children in our community and far beyond," stated Jennifer Smart, Texas Children Hospital’s Manager of the office of development, in a letter sent to her staff. "Every child whose life is saved or whose illness is treated is a miracle, and your involvement and generosity is what makes such miracles possible."

Pitts said the Children’s Miracle Network has also been supportive of her efforts.

"The doctors and staff at Texas Children’s Hospital have been wonderful to us all," Pitts said. "Especially Dr. Fernando Stein, who said he is going to include Seth in a book he is writing abut the hospital."

Pitts has established a Web site in memory of Seth. On the site, she & her husband express there gratitude for having Seth for the time he was here.

"We would like to tell you thank you so much for giving us the time you did," the site says. "You are our little treasure that means so much to us. There is nothing more beautiful in the world than your sweet smile and soft hair. God blessed us so much when he blessed us with such a beautiful boy. We had never known what it was like to love something so much until you showed us what it was like to be loved back. We are eternally grateful that you chose us to be your parents and that you expressed to us how much you loved us. We had no idea what strength truly was until we saw how much you had. You had the ability to forever change the lives of so many people and touch their hearts."http://seth-pitts.memory-of.com.

Sandra and Larry Pitts

On Aug. 12 2008 our little boy Seth woke up just as he always had happy to see us and grinning from ear to ear. As we always did we got him dressed and told him we loved him before I dropped him off for the day at his grandparents’ house. When I made my usual call to check to see how his day was going there was no answer. Not long after I had the worst call that a mother could receive – a call that said our child had stopped breathing in his sleep and was being given CPR.

He stayed in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children’s Hospital (PICU) for three days. The doctors worked feverishly to save him but on Aug. 14 our son Seth went to be with the Lord and all the other angels. While he was here he left a lasting impression on the doctors nurses medical staff multiple family and friends who had a chance to know him. Our little pumpkin also placed his little fingertips on the people who didn’t get a chance to meet him as stories have been shared with us about how their lives have been affected by his story.

After our son went to be with the Lord my husband and I decided we wanted to honor Seth’s legacy by having an under-the-water sea mural painted and wall-mounted toys put up at Texas Children’s outside the PICU waiting room for small children since they are not allowed in the main ICU waiting area. We held a fundraiser and raised over $4000. We are proud of this accomplishment and hope to do many more things to honor Seth’s legacy.

One of our fears during the three nights’ stay at Texas Children’s was how in the world are we going to pay for all the hospital bills. We thought they would be close to $100000 but had no idea of the real cost. When we found out that Oilfield Helping Hands was offering to help us with the hospital bills we were speechless. We didn’t know how you would begin to tell someone thank you for helping to lift such a heavy burden off our shoulders. I believe that when you do something good for others it will come back to you ten-fold. We found out about OHH after we started the project for the wall mural and wall-mounted toys. We believe God has blessed us with a beautiful little boy and He is continuing to bless us.

Thank you OHH for helping my husband and me in our time of need. There will never be enough words to express to you our true gratitude and what it means as parents to know that there are people who are willing to help others when they feel like there is no end in sight. We feel an enormous burden has been lifted off our shoulders and that we can breathe again. Thank you so much for everything you have done.

Update from the Pitts Family Januari 2011

The Pittses welcomed a new son in Mei 2010 and named him after Dr. Musick who treated Seth. With some of the money that the Pittses raised they had a Christmas dinner delivered to the staff at Texas Children’s PICU who were working on Christmas eve. Dr. Stein PICU Chief is writing a book and is going to include Seth’s story along with a thank-you letter that Sandra and Larry wrote to the hospital after Seth’s death.

Oilfield Helping Hands Tribute Letter - Thank You  / Mommy &. Daddy (Parents)

(This was read in honor of you and to say thank you to OHH for their contribution to us.  We love you pumpkin and miss you very much.  You are in our hearts everyday.)  Love you sweetie...

It was the last morning we would say goodbye to our three month old son Seth and we didn’t even know it. On Tuesday, August 12, 2008 our little boy Seth woke up just as he always had, happy to see us and grinning from ear to ear. We got up that morning just as usual, getting him dressed and telling him how much we loved him before I dropped him off for the day at his grandparent’s house. I would make my usual call to check and see how his day was going but there was no answer. Not long after I hung up the phone I had the worst call a mother could ever receive and that was our child “wasn’t breathing”. Seth had to be given CPR because he had stopped breathing in his sleep.

Well from this point forward everything was fast paced. He was transported to Bayshore Hospital for stabilization and then taken by ambulance to Texas Children’s Hospital where he stayed in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for three days. The doctors worked feverishly trying to save our son but things just didn’t look good. On Thursday, August 14, 2008 our son Seth went to be with the Lord and all the other angels. He came with angel’s wings and stayed for a short time before he took his sweet flight to heaven. While he was here he left a lasting impression on the doctors, nurses, medical staff, multiple family and friends that had a chance to get to know him. Our little pumpkin also placed his little fingerprints on the people who didn’t get a chance to meet him. Stories have been shared with my husband and me about how their lives have been affected by his story and what it meant to them. We believe that God sent our sunshine to us for a special purpose and he is filling it and will continue to do so. We are so proud that our little Seth chose us to be his parents.

After our son’s passing we decided to get with Texas Children’s Hospital and have an ‘Under the Sea’ wall mural painted and wall mounted toys put up in his honor. We raised about $5000.00 in our efforts. We are so proud to have accomplished such an amazing goal.

While we were in the hospital one of mine and my husband’s fears during the three nights stay at Texas Children’s Hospital was how in the world are we going to pay for all of the hospital bills. We knew they would be outrageous because he was in ICU at two different hospitals and was in an ambulance as well. We thought they were going to be close to $100,000 dollars but had no real idea of the true cost. When we spoke of this to our family they would tell us not to worry about it and that it will come later but as a parent you can not help but think about it. When we found out that Oil Field Helping Hands was offering to help us with our hospital bills we were speechless. We didn’t know what to say to each other or even how you would begin to tell someone thank you for helping to lift such a heavy burden. We feel God has blessed our family.

Thank you Oil Field Helping Hands for helping my husband and I in our time of need. There will never be enough words to express to you our true gratitude and what it means as parents to know that there are people who are willing to help others when they feel like there is no end in sight. We feel an enormous burden has been lifted and that we can breathe again. Thank you so much for everything you have done.

God Bless,
Larry, Sandra & Baby Seth
